How to build a simple garden bench

Steps

  1. Cut legs (4 × 430 mm), rails (4 × 400 mm) and stretchers (2 × 1.4 m).
  2. Build two leg frames with rails top and bottom.
  3. Join frames with stretchers, check square.
  4. Screw seat boards on with a 6 mm gap; sand and oil.
Tip: Pre-drill every screw within 30 mm of a board end or it will split.

  • 4 × 94×44 mm CLS or treated timber, 2.4 m
  • 2 × 145×28 mm deck boards, 2.4 m
  • 40 × 5×70 mm exterior screws
  • Exterior wood oil
