How to build a slatted compost bin

Steps

  1. Cut boards to 1 m.
  2. Screw boards to posts on three sides with 15 mm gaps.
  3. Fix vertical guides at the front so boards slide in as removable slats.
  4. Stand on bare soil, not paving, so worms can get in.
Tip: Two bays side by side let you turn one into the other; that halves the time to usable compost.

  • 4 × 45×45 mm treated posts, 1.2 m
  • 14 × 100×22 mm treated boards, 2.4 m
  • 60 × 4×40 mm screws

  • Hand or mitre saw
  • Drill/driver
