How to build a raised garden bed

Steps

  1. Cut two boards in half for the 1.2 m ends.
  2. Cut four 450 mm corner stakes from the post; point one end.
  3. Screw two long boards to the stakes to make each side, then add the ends.
  4. Level the ground, set the frame, drive stakes in and line with membrane.
Tip: Use treated timber rated Use Class 4 for ground contact; standard 'treated' timber rots in two seasons.

  • 6 × 150×47 mm treated boards, 2.4 m
  • 1 × 47×47 mm treated post, 2.4 m (cut into 4 corner stakes)
  • 60 × 5×70 mm exterior screws
  • Weed membrane, 3 m²

  • Mitre or circular saw
  • Drill/driver
  • Tape and square
  • Spade
